Do you know FreeMind ?
FreeMind is a java-based open source mind mapper.
It is very simple but that’s actually it’s strength. It’s easy to use and quite powerfull.
The only problem I had with it was the lack of images.
Mindmapping is about associations. Without images you’re loosing a significant part of mind mappings “magic”
I couldn’t find any tutorials on this theme, so I’ve just made one of my own.

Now if we only could get links between non-sibling nodes and custom node attributes…
